Our History

In 1919, brothers Edwin, Clayton, and John Laudermilch left the family farm to share their talent for meat preparation by opening a small butcher shop in Cleona, Pennsylvania. In the great tradition of farmer-butchers from centuries past, the Laudermilch brothers offered quality butchering-often bringing their business to the customer with a horse drawn wagon and weekly route.
The tradition of the Pennsylvania Country Butcher is one of thrift and economy. The Pennsylvania Dutch farmer was self-sufficient, raising, slaughtering, and preparing his own meats. Curing, smoking and pickling were all employed to preserve virtually every part of the animal. Each family guarded its own collection of recipes and techniques, many of which are still used today at Laudermilch’s to bring a true old-fashioned taste to the foods we produce.

The horse and wagon days may be long gone, but no one at Laudermilch’s has forgotten the importance of individual attention to each customer who enters our shop. Our friendly staff is always at your service to explain cuts, weights and cooking techniques. Full service means you never leave Laudermilch’s with less than the very best in fresh meat and foods.

We sell over ten different varieties of sausages, all made fresh on location, and our filled items are stuffed with our own homemade filling. Laudermilch’s fresh poultry display is the largest in the area, offering chicken, turkey, duck, and Cornish hens.

We are proud to carry products prepared in our own kitchen, too. In our bakery, we prepare a large variety of “made from scratch” delights including wet bottom shoofly pie, cookies, cakes, whoopie pies and more. Our deli not only features lunchmeats and cheese, but we also cook over 150 ready-to-eat foods in our own kitchen,

The Laudermilch Difference

In today’s atmosphere of mergers and consolidations, consumers often find the exact same product in nearly every retail store. When you see meats on the shelf of any of your local grocery stores, there is a good chance it all come from the same freezer, refrigerator, or warehouse. Therefore, what’s the difference between meats from one grocery store or another? The truth is, there is no difference.
However, at Laudermilch’s we continue the old world butcher tradition of hand cutting and processing our own meats. Our double smoked hams are known state wide, and our bologna is smoked in our own smokehouse. And Laudermilch’s aims to ensure the finest quality at the best price.

Products made in our kitchen and bakery are one of a kind. Our deli items are homemade using recipes that have pleased our customers for decades. Baked good are made from scratch in our own bakery for a taste like no other!

So what’s the difference? Come in and you’ll see and taste the difference-Laudermilch’s is one of a kind!
